VIGOR++ featured in Euronews Documentary

The work undertaken by VIGOR++ was featured in a dedicated documentary produced and broadcasted by Euronews in the context of their Futuris Programme on 1 July 2013.

The documentary depicts medical imagery and interviews by both VIGOR++ researchers and Crohn\'s disease patients. It highlights the advantages of using Magnetic Resonance Images over X-Rays or invasive techniques like endoscopy or colonoscopy and was filmed in various locations around the UCL campus and UCL Hospital in London.

Professor Alastair Forbes, a Gastroenterologist at UCLH, said as part of the documentary: We are now in a position where we can make a fairly confident radiological diagnosis. We can say: the patient has Crohn’s disease, or the patient has stenosis, the patient has fibrosis, or the patient has inflammation. We can then semi-automate that by the computer analysis, using all the various scientific algorithms, that come within the program, then we stand the chance of fine tuning that even further. Dr Frans Vos, the VIGOR++ co-ordinator from Delft University of Technology stated: We are doing more fundamental research enabling that a patient is more accurately assessed. And I think that this technology will be used in the future in the next, let’s say, four years or so.

Futuris reaching 340 million households in 130 countries and twelve languages (English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, Arabic, Turkish, Persian, Ukranian and Greek), helps VIGOR++ raise awareness about the research undertaken and show to patients and their families what is becoming possible with the latest advances in ICT for healthcare.
